Scholarships
We have a unique relationship with a small group of weavers from the village of Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala that started in 1992. We currently sponsor scholarships for students from these families – grade school though university. In Honduras we sponsor students in grade school and at a boarding school, as their families live deep in the mountains where the schools only go to sixth grade. We are changing lives by supporting opportunities for education.

Our help can be the deciding factor as to whether a student can afford to go to school or not. Their education costs are steep as it is not just the cost of tuition, uniforms, and books, but the loss of a worker at home or in the fields. All the students work hard to get to school.
It is especially costly to attend university. Transportation costs may include a boat ride from Santiago Atitlan, and at least one bus ride to their place of study. Many students relocate to live with other family members that reside closer to larger towns and cities to attend college. This all adds to the difficulty and expense of continuing education.
